What to see in Barcelona and its surroundings

Visit Barcelona means discover many places of cultural interest, the Ciudad Condal is full of monuments, museums, squares and streets to enjoy and to know.

But we also want to emphasize its surroundings, where you can find also a lot of cool places to explore. We know that, sometimes, it’s nice and relaxing to visit the outsides of a big city.
In this posts we will give you some good ideas of great places to enjoy close to the city of Barcelona.

Places to visit near the capital:

The Monastery of Montserrat
  • The Monastery of Montserrat: Sure, you already have heard about the imposing Montserrat Monastery located 60 kilometers from Barcelona, in Bages region.
  • With a height of 720 meters above sea level, this structure is considered one of the great symbols of Catalonia.
  • It can be reached by car via the A2 highway, by the train rack or by the cable car, an option highly demanded by the great views of the mountains that it offers.
Sanctuary of Mare de Deu de Montserrat
  • Sanctuary of Mare de Deu de Montserrat: A not much known jewel of modernist architecture.
  • It’s a temple located in the middle of the town of Montferri vineyards, Tarragona.
  • It’s situated approximately an hour’s drive from the capital. This great work was made by the architect Josep Maria Jujol, who was a disciple of Antoni Gaudí. You will be able to appreciate the Gaudí influence in the work of Jujol, which is really related with the famous Sagrada Familia.
Port Aventura
  • Port Aventura: If what you want it’s to live a full day of fun and extreme emotions this theme park is just what you are looking for.
  • Located between Vilaseca and Salou, about 115 kilometers from Barcelona this park offers fun for the whole family with different attractions and shows that children will surely enjoy.
Dalí Theater Museum
  • Dalí Theater Museum: This may be one of the greatest attractions of Figueres, the birthplace of the painter Salvador Dalí.
  • It’s situated one hour and 40 min away from Barcelona by car, perhaps it is the farthest, but once you would arrived at your destination you will understand why this magnificent museum is worth visiting.
  • A museum dedicated to the life and work of Dalí. It was the third most visited in all Spain during the year 2013 and it houses an enormous amount of works of the painter, where also it also finds the tomb of the same one.
  • Cathedral of Santa Maria de Girona: Girona city is located about 100 kilometers away from Barcelona.
  • Its medieval style makes it a very attractive destination.
  • Its cathedral has the widest Gothic nave in the world with a total of 22.98 meters in width and 34 meters in height.
  • It is the most visited monument of the city, but in Girona you can also find beautiful natural landscapes such as the Parc de la Devesa or the Parc Natural del Montgrí.

The idea of visiting these places is to enjoy, to know, to clear the mind and to relax of the noise of the city, and then return to Barcelona and can enjoy some cool spa of the city. We recommend you to stay in a good hotel with spa in Barcelona, the options are very varied, but in particular we would recommend the spa of the Hotel Omm located in Paseo de Gracia. It is a very relaxing space where they offer multiple treatments for the general well-being, this is a recommendation that surely doesn’t fail.
