Catalysr is an award-winning startup pre-accelerator headquartered in Sydney. We run intensive entrepreneurship programs for high-performing migrant and refugee entrepreneurs — aka Migrapreneurs — who want to find success in Australia by building their own tech startups.

Each year, our Sydney-based programme brings together some of the best minds in Australia — including successful founders, investors and domain experts, to help our Migrapreneurs launch and scale ventures focused on building Australia 2.0.

Since we launched in 2016, we have supported over 100 founders — including space-tech startup Spiral Blue, peer-to-peer solar energy startup GreenGrid, lab-grown diamond company Diamonds from the Sky, water purification tech company Water Democracy, and pregnancy + yoga app YogiBirth.

Why now?

After the success of our first 4 pre-accelerator programmes, along with media coverage and a windfall of support from around the globe (including our co-founder & CEO Usman meeting Prince Harry to be awarded the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year award), we are now in the process of growing our programme both nationally and internationally — with pilots in Melbourne and New Zealand in the pipeline.

We’re currently looking to bring someone exceptional into the team who can step up to run our operations in Sydney full-time, while building systems and processes that will enable us to replicate our programme across cities.

We’re excited about this role because of its immense potential to supercharge the growth of hundreds of companies, create thousands of jobs, and help create a better, more inclusive world.

The Head of Operations will be responsible for:

  • Owning the overall timeline, management, and improvement of the programme — including collaborating on programme design, finding, scheduling and briefing mentors and facilitators, finding and developing partnerships with third parties, organising events both large and small, and gathering regular feedback to improve the programme.
  • Programme execution — including facilitating events, masterclasses, fireside chats, and demo day; being the first point of contact for founders and delivering programme comms; running weekly all-hands meetings and monthly alumni catch-ups.
  • Traffic control — Coordinating 3 entrepreneurs in residence and a marketing coordinator in Sydney, and in 2020 an additional 3 EiRs and operations coordinator in Melbourne. Support the CEO in executing the strategy and ensuring all functional units of Catalysr (HQ, Sydney, Melbourne, NZ, Migrapreneur Stories, G20 YEA, CatalysrX) speak to and collaborate with each other to run in harmony.
  • Evangelism & growth — attend startup ecosystem and corporate networking events such as Demo-fairs, info nights, product launches etc — that are relevant to build networks for partnerships and mentors, partners and investors; speak at conferences and info-nights to spread the word about Catalysr to build the pipeline of founders and supporters.
  • Programme administration — Keeping on top of our insurances and contracts, developing invoices and other paperwork for externals, tracking and updating legals as required, managing the programme to a budget and managing expectations and moving commitments in the team.

Who are you?

We’re looking for a pretty unique human for this unique role. Our ideal team mate is 50% project manager & operations person, 50% people person, and 100% lover of startups.

You’ll get energy from seamlessly managing disparate tasks that would make most people’s heads spin. You’re super organised and can comfortably take on ambiguous, multifaceted problems without dropping the ball on day-to-day operations. You’ll know what it’s like to work in a lean operation where often you have to be resourceful and hustle to solve problems independently — and ideally, you’ll thrive in that environment.

You’re also a people person at your core. You love talking to people, getting to know them and you derive energy from helping them achieve their goals. You’re a facilitator, relationship builder, and connector who’s comfortable in the limelight, along with talking to people from all walks of life — from first time founders to C-level executives and venture capitalists.

How to apply

If even a few of these criteria speak to you, please consider applying to join Catalysr at this tipping point in our trajectory. We are super excited for what lies ahead as we continue to produce amazing startups locally, while growing our operation both nationally and abroad.

This is an opportunity for a high-potential person to take their career to the next level, in a role that places you among some of the best founders, investors, and startup domain experts in the country.

To apply, please fill out this form. We will get in touch to discuss next steps if you are progressed to the next phase. Please note we can only accept applications from people who are based in Sydney (or are willing to relocate for the role).
