Seatbelts?

The name is synonymous with luxury, excellence, and performance.

Started from the remnants of the Henry Ford Company (not Ford Motors, but related) and eventually acquired by General Motors, the Cadillac Motor Car Division was founded 120 years ago on August 22, 1902.

Today, we associate the Cadillac brand with style, performance, and luxury, but mostly it means you’re either financially comfortable or you inherited a family heirloom.

However, Cadillac wasn’t just about fancy bells and whistles. They were on the cutting edge of cars too.

The Royal Automobile Club is a private social and athletic club (much like America’s country clubs) that awards something called the Dewar Trophy. Not an annual award, the Trophy is awarded when the club’s expert committee decides there’s enough new tech out there to merit a competition.

The Dewar Trophy is considered one of the most prestigious awards in British engineering, and thanks to innovations like interchangeable parts, electric lights, and the electric starter, Cadillac was the first American-made car to win the award.

And they did it twice (1908, 1913).

Not the actual Dewar Trophy
