United States National Parks are unique gems. Shouts to the foresight needed for conservation, and kudos to the leaders who continue the mission today.

The Organic Act of 1916, signed August 25, 1916, created the National Park Service.

Organic Act of 1916

At the time of its creation, the NPS was inheriting 11 National Parks including the one that got it all started in 1872, Yellowstone.

Today, the National Park Service takes care of 63 National Parks. However, there are 423 national park sites including battlefields, lakeshores, memorials and other historic places throughout the country worth conservation, and the NPS takes care of them too.
