In 2018, over 6,000 nonprofits were invited to access Catchafire — a mere fraction of the more than 1.5 million nonprofits in the U.S. alone.

Dear Friends,

Human capital constraints have long threatened the sustainability and effectiveness of the social impact sector. Today, with government resources rapidly shrinking and demand for nonprofit services rising, the challenge is even more acute. Catchafire was founded in 2010 to address this challenge by tapping into a powerful and largely underutilized resource — millions of professionals looking for a way to give back.

For nearly a decade, Catchafire has developed and refined a model that enables nonprofits to access immediate, high-quality services through virtual engagements with pro bono professionals.

In partnership with funders seeking new, scalable, and more equitable ways to support nonprofit effectiveness, we’re working to empower thousands of nonprofits across entire regions and cause areas with Catchafire’s capacity-building solution.

As one example, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) grant funding enabled Catchafire to make its services available to thousands of nonprofits in New Jersey at no cost, broadening capacity-building support and resources to nonprofit leaders across the state — even those that aren’t funded by RWJF. Through partnerships like this, any nonprofit professional can immediately access the talent they need to get things done in service of strengthening their organization.

We are proud of what we have accomplished with our nonprofit, volunteer, foundation, and corporate partners over the years, and we are thrilled to share a snapshot of that impact in this report. However, we also recognize the enormous challenge — and opportunities — that lie ahead.

There is much more work to be done to connect nonprofits in the U.S. and around the world with the critical talent they need to effectively achieve their missions and serve their communities, and we are excited to be a powerful part of the solution.

Thank you to the nonprofits, volunteers, and funders who have joined our efforts thus far to bring to market the first scalable capacity-building solution that can serve all nonprofits. We couldn’t do this without you, and we look forward to the exciting new partnerships ahead in service of addressing the human capital gap in the sector.

In service,
