Free Verse
The way you write poems,
in longhand with pens or pencils,
or with your fingers tiptoeing on a typewriter,
(if you have one even now)
or with your fingernails dallying on digital keypads,
those determined lyrics-like librettos,
in a lilting language cozy and known to you,
that intelligence you bring forth,
that courageous reluctance,
the miracles you craft so delicately in each word/each day,
or whenever you feel like, in different forms,
the personalities you create, the personal stories you register,
the hurts you open, the universities of life you reveal,
the forgotten memoirs you engrave… … …
“You should know this hustle or hobby is also called healing.
In other words, you’re participating in self-sustenance,
fending for yourself.
You are participating in your own recovery.”
