I had a dream only a few days after I shared Hiding The Bear Within From Myself. Remarkably, this dream, and the consequent analysis by Wendy¹ continued the theme of what I’d written before.

Wendy’s analysis made me cry, because it hit close to home. It exposed things I know deep down, but sort-of-ignore.

A dream filled with symbols

The first thing I see in my dream is a rather full-bodied woman wearing a skirt and a white blouse, and over thick colorful coat. She’s alone in some kind of old-fashioned room, with wood panelling and thick carpets.

I know that she’s there to get information, but I don’t know what. She opens her coat, pushes her hands into the pockets and they come out filled with thin, round, white discs, which she drops inside her blouse. I sense that she’s trying to hide the discs.

In comes a man, and he stands a few meters behind her. He’s of Japanese origin. (Just for the record: I know no one from Japan.) He cannot see the discs, but tells her to take off her shoes. She bends forward, and I can see into her blouse, and see the discs gathered below her breasts and on her belly.

Suddenly, the scene changes.

I’m walking behind that Japanese man, who turns out to be a general. Then another Japanese man grabs me from behind and holds a knife to my throat. He threatens the general: “I will kill your wife.”

I’m not surprised that he thinks I’m the general’s wife. Apparently we have agreed I would pretend to be, to keep me safe. With my life threatened, I beg not to be killed and reveal instantly that the general is not my husband.

The knife disappears from my throat, but the man holds on to my wrist as he drags me with him down the street, away from the general. I know he will spare my life, and don’t feel like I am in danger anymore. While following him, I think of things weighing heavily on me — my…
