Earthquake? What to Do When the Ground Starts Shaking
Remembering Mom’s positive attitude!
My Mom was known and loved for her bright outlook on life. Even in the face of adversity, she always put a positive spin on things. Something about her refused to be put down. Not by people, circumstance or even mother nature.
If it rained, Mom would say, ‘Well, at least it isn’t snowing!” When it snowed, she said, “Well, at least it isn’t raining!” These quotes are held with love in the Mom Quotes Hall of Fame. We repeat them whenever needed.
Living on the west coast of Canada, it is not unusual to feel an earthquake or two. I will always remember the first one I experienced. As the dishes rattled on the buffet and the floor shook under my feet, I clung to my Mother’s arm. Already, at my young age, I had heard stories of the earth opening up and everything falling in. I think I was preparing to meet my maker.
Mom said, “Don’t be silly. It’s nothing to worry about.” Calmly, serenely, she carried on with her work. It was hard not to trust her words.
