PEACEMAKING PIECE BY PIECE
I Will Compose Myself
Bach composed about 300 cantatas, but only about 200 are still in existence today — I am one of the missing ones
Peace building is in Bach’s music. Donald Reeves, theologian called a very dangerous man by Margaret Thatcher
See me on the cathedral floor
Bleeding out, sick unto death
of the sanctimonious song of wrath
my keyboard persists in playing
My cobalt blue judgement
of the other side’s
outrageously orange
greed, cruelty, stoked fears,
craven capitulation, and selfishness
in contrapuntal counterpoint
with my own awful delusions
and awed derangements
Mine, I like to think,
are more harmonious –
in the key of B,
our crown chakra
or A for our third eye — but, oh,
how I have learned
to distrust the mind!
