The onscreen chemistry between StanChris and his co-star, Art Bezrukavenko, is electric. Let’s make that clear from the outset.

Charged, chicaned, courageous, and real.

YouTube maverick (and self-proclaimed ‘Tater Top’) StanChris released a short film last week, examining the social ideations and ills of online dating and connection. I fucking loved it.

On the surface, this isn’t a film about smiles and rainbows, happy endings (!) and true love. Instead, it depicts the dizzying heights of online connection and exhilarating sex countered by an aftermath so many of us experience; rejection.

Buyer’s remorse. The fatigued thrill of the chase. Deletion.

Second Thought does present the viewer with a “sliding doors” scenario: what if the two eagle-eyed bed buddies had never slept with one another on their first date?

I found this turning point slightly moralizing, though the performances (neither StanChris nor Art utter a word in the film, which is a testament to their fluent body language) more than compensate for the slight hiccup in direction.

I won’t spoil the ending, though it did bring an ice-cold tear to my eye. Second Thought is a worthy watch and a reflection of the stark realities, and prophetic dreaming, every gay man experiences in the age of love in the digital sphere.

Thank you for reading! StanChris is one of my favorite YouTubers and I just *had* to write a review for his short film!

I hope you enjoy both my review and his film (if you’re so inclined!)
