The Old Fireplace;

Counting My Blessings

Today, I decided to sit in front of the old fireplace and consider lighting it to bring back memories, but all I did was remind myself of all the blessings in my life.

Growing up in a Christian home, we were instructed to count our blessings every day from sunrise to sunset. It is amazing how a young child can be so innocent and sincere in their counting.
"We made it to wake up!" I spoke.
"Today we had food!" My sister gave a yell
My younger brother exclaimed, "We live in a big house."
Not because my youngest sister was funny, but rather because she would always remind us to look at what we had as a blessing, everyone would laugh when she exclaimed, "We are not sick and we have hair on our heads!"

I am completely amazed and speechless when I think back on this routine. Realizing that the small things—like having shoes on your feet, a bed to sleep in, and a safe return from work—are what we should consider to be blessings. Sincerely speaking, I have lost count of the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon my family and me. The only way I can adequately convey this is to encourage you to count your blessings and name them, even if doing so means you will fall asleep without realizing it.

God is the only one you owe anything to, and He loves you so much that it seems like you are the only one who ever existed and that no one else was.

It is incredibly consoling to know that He knows and hears you. It used to be a more common practice to count one’s blessings, but that is not the case anymore.
