A week of such oppressive heat
Tempered by a storm
Summer heatwave from the start,
But recent days, just warm.

Christmas is approaching
Things we must attend,
Christmas pageants, break-ups,
Lunches out with friends.

There’s something almost every day,
Until at least New Year,
I hope I get time to relax
And enjoy the Christmas cheer.

Presents sit beneath the tree,
At least all that is done.
Opening them on Christmas Day
And sharing will be fun.

The tree turns slowly on its stand,
Twinkling lights aglow,
It’s summer in Australia,
White Christmas we don’t know.

We’re staying home alone this year,
Unless someone drops by.
Our children all have other plans,
So we’ll meet up on the fly.
