Some call it conscience: Others say we hear three voices: ourselves, the liar — and the Voice of God Himself
Tim was considering suicide. But everything changed.
“I heard a very audible voice say, ‘You selfish human,’’’ Tim recalls. “And it got louder, calling me by name, and it said ‘Stop what you’re doing right now and come home. Come home. Listen to me. I’m your Father.’”
The Voice grew louder, Tim continued, “and I felt this heat fill up in my chest, and I’m like ‘What is that?’ And it put a smile on my face. Soon, I was crying. One minute I was ready to end my life, and the next thing I know, two years later, here I am alive going to Mass, going to AA meetings.”
Coming home to his Church and finding Alcoholics Anonymous (a child of the spiritual teachings of St. Ignatius) renewed his life.
Returning to faith means “starting every morning with all these prayers. I didn’t think I was going to make it. Talk about listening to God’s Voice. That’s all I hear now. Where do you want me to go next? What’s the Plan here? You’re the one in control. I’m not.”
