Saints inspire new ones. Blessed Stefan Wyszyński became “uncrowned king of Poland, by exerting a true authority all others lacked.

Wyszyński, who mentored St. John Paul the Great, was beatified on September 12 along with Mother Elżbieta Róża Czacka.

“Both were familiar with the cross firsthand,” Pope Francis said, stressing Wyszyński, “was arrested and imprisoned, was always a courageous pastor,” while “Sister Elżbieta, who as a young girl lost her sight, devoted her whole life to assisting the blind.”
