Tradition teaches the icon of Mary and baby Jesus, connected with numerous miraculous events throughout Polish history, was painted by St. Luke on a tabletop from the Holy Family's home.

Other nations have their own legendary icons believed to be created by St. Luke.

Greek Orthodox Catholics teach that Luke completed three icons of Mary during her lifetime and another 70 after she ascended to Heaven.

Best known as St. Luke the Evangelist, a physician, and author of the Book of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles, he is also revered as the first iconographer.

Bishop Robert Barron and his Word on Fire Institute emphasize that the most effective evangelization starts with what is beautiful about Catholicism before teaching what is good and true.
