What was Jesus’s last prayer for his Church? He gave St. Faustina prayers in 1935, which the Catholic Church instituted as Divine Mercy on April 30, 2000.

St. John Paul the Great called that day he instituted Divine Mercy the “greatest day of my life,” knowing he was fully adopting requests Jesus made to Faustina, a young Polish nun in the 1930s.

“This miracle of mercy has radically changed humanity’s destiny,” John Paul said in his 2001 Divine Mercy Sunday homily, the first time this feast was officially part of the Church calendar. “It is a miracle in which is unfolded the fulness of the love of the Father.”

Jesus told Faustina to get the Church to establish Divine Mercy Sunday, saying: “Whoever approaches the Fount of Life on this day (Divine Mercy Sunday) will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment” (Diary 300).

He added, “The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion will obtain complete forgiveness of sins
