Diakonia means “to serve,” ministering and executing the commands of a higher authority: like angels serving God.

“The key to understanding our relationship with our angels is knowing that they are assigned to us by God and that we are able to send them,” Patrick Reis explains in his new book. “This denotes the authority that God has assigned to us in regard to our angels.”

Supernatural Saints: A School of Ministry From the Saints is the first book by Reis, executive director of the growing Brighton, Michigan-based Encounter Ministries. His key message: the supernatural work that began in the Bible continued with every generation. The best-known are called saints.

But he also teaches much about angels, supernatural beings who have fascinated believers and non-believers alike: “In the Old Testament, there are 114 references to angels.

“In the New Testament, there are 179 such references. Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Take care that you do not despise one of these little ones; for, I tell you, in heaven, their angels continually see the face of my Father in heaven’ (Matthew 18:10, NRSVCE).
