The Meaning of Your Body is a Temple

“Your body is a temple” explains Catholic teaching on everything from abortion to the Eucharist, from euthanasia to sex — to why it’s slothful to defile your body with too much food, drink or unhealthy activity.

Imagine God giving you a cathedral. You’re responsible for its care, growth, and readying it for future generations — but it’s God’s home, and your Lord is watching. Is what you do with your body and “your talent” your test? A reminder that God wants to marry you?

The critical question: Is there something you’d do with your body that you’d never dream of doing while sitting in Church on Sunday?

How would God and his children react if you brought embarrassing garbage — unhealthy, unneeded, or unhelpful — into the cathedral you share with Him? The Bible brings this choice up a lot, telling us our bodies are our gift, sacred places where God himself dwells within us.
