Why I’m Not A Rad Trad

The parish within walking distance of home is a unique blend of Tradition and Novus Ordo. Unlike other parishes in our diocese, we kneel through the entire Eucharistic prayer, where the others stand after the acclamation of faith. Though using English Novus Ordo prayers on most days, the priest faces the altar as was common pre-Vatican II. On Fridays, they use the Novus Ordo liturgy, but everything else is in Latin except for the readings and the homily. There’s no chatter before or following Mass. These people know that it’s a serious sin to prevent others from praying! The music is more traditional and sometimes includes Gregorian chant.

I’m a very conservative Novus Ordo Catholic and I enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to occasionally attend Mass at the only FSSP parish in my city for these five reasons:

  1. Opportunity to engage in contemplative prayer without the disruption of frequent required liturgical responses.
  2. Silence in the church before Mass allows for conversation with Our Lady before receiving Jesus in the Eucharist.
  3. Silence after Mass allows for continued intimacy with Jesus in the temple of my soul after…
