I’d like you all to meet Jack, the 12-year-old orange Maine Coon cat that I have had the pleasure of living with for the past 4 years. If you are curious about Maine Coons, I enjoy this video about Hobie, another orange Maine Coon very similar to our Jack.

Jack is my partner’s cat and so when we decided to move in together 4 years ago, it also meant welcoming this third roommate into my life.

I was born into a dog family and I loved my four-legged furry siblings. We had several by the time I went to college, many of whom I don’t remember well as I was too young, but many made an impact. There was Cleo, the German Shepard-Husky mix that my dad saved from the pound before he met my mom. She was the perfect pet, both guard dog and loving friend all rolled into one.

Though my mom raised many German Shepards, Katie was the one that I remember most. She was long-haired, meaning that we had to shave her in the summer because we were in Texas, resulting in a pathetic appearance for half the year, but at least she didn’t overheat. Sometimes we have to look a little ridiculous to feel safe, secure, healthy, happy, etc.

We also had a Golden Retriever, Clyde, who loved to jump the fence and visit the neighborhood during the day. We kept adding to the fence…
