Caturday — Remembering Callie and Mrs. Rest

March 2015. Home at last

Last Caturday (August 27, 2022) I wrote about Nikki, a lovely fluffy kitty belonging to an elderly, former client of mine, Mrs. Rest.

After Nikki passed away, Mrs. Rest was devastated and I felt that she needed another furry companion. I found out about an extremely senior cat who had recently lost her owner and needed a home. The rescue people were concerned that at her age (16) it would be hard to find her a home.

I arranged a meeting with the foster and the kitty, and Mrs. Rest was immediately captivated. She would be delighted to adopt Callie, as the senior cat was called.

Catching Callie to get her into the cat carrier took 2 hours and ended up with my having to drop a towel over her and bundle her into the carrier in that undignified manner. Callie never forgot that and was pretty hostile to me from that day on and whenever I came by to see Mrs. Rest.

We got Callie back to Mrs. Rests house, got her bed and toys and litter box and got everything set up. Then we let her out of the carrier to investigate.

It took a while, but once Callie decided that this was her new home, she permitted Ms. Rest to brush her and would even come and sit with her while Mrs. Rest was watching TV.
