How Well Do You Know Your Cat?
While planning re-homing if you die early, there’s much to consider
Have you arranged to re-home your cats if you die before them? I thought I had the perfect plan but learned I was wrong.
My husband and I adopted our tuxedo kitten from a local shelter mere weeks after we lost our first family rescue from kidney disease. No one knows the best time to welcome a new pet into their home after a loss, but rescuing Huey felt right. Now, almost two years in, we still believe we made the right decision.
Huey has brought us much joy and laughter, and while possessing a much different personality than Skye, we never meant to replace her. Through her shyness, Skye always showed us her love through her dedicated presence. However, she never allowed us to hold her, and she quickly darted away if she got spooked.
Huey, the adventurer, is much calmer. He lounges wherever he pleases until something intriguing captures his eye. Whether it’s a twirling leaf on our balcony or a neighbouring person watering flowers on theirs, with Huey’s face pressed against the windowpane, he’s always eager to get involved.
