The opening credits of Diamonds Are Forever, a James Bond film, feature Shirley Bassey singing the title song. The credit footage also shows diamonds, a blond-haired woman, and a white cat.
Ms. Bassey sings that diamonds are all she needs to please, stimulate, and tease her. She proclaims that they will never leave her, as a lover might.
In contrast to the materialistic lyrics in the song, my cat, Little Miss Muffin, brings me a different kind of pleasure. I crave her tender sweetness as she fills life with joy, love, and companionship.
Muffin is now 20 months old. By chronological feline standards, she is no longer a kitten but a full-grown and mature cat. Still, she is as gentle, playful, loving, silly, and cute as when she was six months old.
