Looking for Linus the Lost Cat

Sometimes a search for a cat is more than a search for a cat.

The kids and I were freshly home from our three-week trip to Europe and awake far earlier than our typical night owl tendencies. As I got up at farmer-o’clock on Wednesday morning and sipped the strongest black tea I could brew, I glanced at my phone and saw an email. It was called, “Asking for help with Linus outreach activities.”

The email came from Susan, one of my oldest and dearest friends. I knew one of her cats, Linus, had wandered off while we were away. I’d seen her posts all over social media and had heard of numerous hopeful yet ultimately unfruitful leads.

She’d met a lot of missing tabbies. But none were Linus. She was hopeful, but distraught.

Her email read:

“As you all know by now, my cat Linus went missing about a month ago and is … still missing. I’m working with a lost animal recovery specialist and with her insight and tons of other research I’ve been doing, there is still plenty of reason to hope we’ll be reunited.

I could use help…”

I yawned and hit reply.

“Count on us for Saturday!”

Jet-lag or not, I wouldn’t miss it.
