Lucky’s No Good, Very Bad Vet Visit Day
Now this newly scared cat doesn’t trust me anymore.
Lucky came into my life as a feral (wild) kitten last fall. He showed up out of the blue in my front yard. He was so unsocial I had to use a humane trap to catch him. And then I spent several days getting to where I could pet him. It took weeks longer for him to truly relax and enjoy being in my company. He eventually came to accept other people coming into the house as well.
Lucky endured a trip to the vet in the fall for a kitten vaccine fairly well. The vet and I were able to handle him easily for his exam and he was back home shortly after, no worse for the trip. But then last week happened.
It was way past time for Lucky to be neutered. In rescue we get them done by 3 months at the latest because a female cat can get pregnant as young as 4 months old. He’s about nine months old now and even though there aren’t any nubile female cats around, you don’t want a male cat to get to the point where their surging hormones trigger them to start spraying the house to mark territory. Lucky was still a sweet, innocent boy but he had recently started playing much rougher with his friends. This told me I needed that neuter appointment ASAP.
