Ragamuffin Cats: Furry Therapists
Prepare your heart to become a puddle of goo.
It was in 2020 that I started researching purebred cats. I was specifically looking for a therapy cat.
I had two elderly cats whose health was in decline. I was particularly close to one of them. She was a rescue cat, but we had a special bond, and her ability to attune to me emotionally and provide comfort on command was something I desired in my next pet.
As she grew older, I was afraid that I would lose that comfort. And as her health declined, she could no longer get comfortable cuddling for long periods.
I researched many different breeds of cats and decided that the perfect therapy cat for me was a Ragamuffin.
What is a Ragamuffin?
Ragamuffins are a breed of cat known for their large size, docile nature, and bunny-like fur. They are a relatively new breed from the United States in the 1990s. Breeders developed them because they wanted to introduce more colors to Ragdolls, so they crossed Ragdolls with other breeds selected for their sweet temperament and long-haired coats.
