A rare picture of Tess & Frankie together

Ever since I was a young boy I always thought of myself as a dog person, but over the last two years, since I became a father to my two furry daughters, I have grown to accept that maybe I am a cat person too. You can be both, right?

It was my wife’s idea to get a cat, and somehow, at some step along the way cat turned into cats. Plural. They were sisters, you see, and it would be criminal to take one without the other. But, despite my initial reservations — and to keep the peace — I gave in, as husbands often do.

Of course, I haven’t looked back since, and it didn’t take me long to grow to love them.

Without even realising, I seem to have become one of those people — you know, the ones who take photos of their cats at every opportunity, put them into every WhatsApp chat they have, and talk to them as if they are just hairy children with four legs, who always seem to be in the one place you don’t want them to be.

It’s still amazing to me how different their personalities are given that they are sisters (well, half-sisters, I think).
