Ivan Skavinsky Skavar, Warrior Cat
A cat’s-eye view of life, by my brother’s cat, Ivan
“There are heroes aplenty and men known to fame
In the troops that were led by the Czar;
But the bravest of these was a man by the name
Of Ivan Skavinsky Skavar.”
Ivan Skavinsky Skavar. A soldier so brave, so fearless, and so renowned for his derring-do that he was the subject of an epic poem.
Ivan was such a fierce fighter, death itself could not beat him. He fought death and won the right to come back again as a Russian. Unfortunately, he was not specific enough. Death had the last laugh, because he came back as a Russian Blue cat.
His reduced circumstances did not slow Ivan down. He quickly located a new base of operations — my parents’ house. He strolled in one spring morning, took a look around, and decided he couldn’t find a better headquarters.
Base established, he needed to reconnoiter. He could not take on all the enemies of Mother Russia in his new, limited form. So he settled for the most egregious — dogs.
The dogs were well organized, a squadron of ten, reporting to two lieutenants and a general. They conducted forays throughout the neighborhood, vandalizing homes and property, and conscripting foodstuffs from the locals. This could not stand!
