This Is What Happens When I Get Bored And Have Vampire Cats On My Mind

Maybe A Somewhat Unfocused Article …

I’m slightly obsessed with both cats and vampires, so this crossover was bound to happen.

It all started when I got bored and decided to open Microsoft Paint and draw cats with vampire teeth. I’m not a particularly talented artist, but I tell myself it’s the fun you have while creating that matters most and also that life is too short to worry about perfection.

So this is how the mindblowing drawing you can see above came into existence.

But it also made me dig a bit deeper, and to my utter shock I’m actually not the first person on Earth to think there might be a connection between vampires and cats.

Here are a few examples that I enjoyed.

  1. This video simply entitled “Vampire Cat”:

Quick and to the point — and really underrated. This was probably just a little exercise for the animator, but I love how succinct and focused on the essentials this is as a result. You get a brief look at the big cat, creepy sound effects are playing, then the transformation happens. Subtle and subdued use of sound and color, both to max effect. A masterclass in minimalism.

2. This scene from “Frankenweenie” in which Mr Whiskers turns into a vampire cat

“Frankenweenie” is a Tim Burton movie from 2012. In this scene, the cute cat undergoes a transformation into a gruesome and honestly pretty scary vampire. The attention to detail here makes the scene both more memorable and more distressing. Nightmare fuel for all ages!

3. Nyanpire

I absolutely adore watching vampire anime, and so my excitement upon discovering a series that actually features a vampire cat was pretty intense. Unfortunately it’s a little hard for me to tell whether the show ultimately lives up to the hype as I couldn’t find any English subs or dubs, but the animation is cute and the outro song is — as only people younger than me should say, but I’m just gonna do it anyway — a bop.

4. Drawfee Show’s “Room Of Vampires”

“Drawfee Show” is a YouTube channel that features a group of extremely talented artists making drawings following a specific theme every episode — the art is gorgeous, the banter is hilarious and I’m a huge fan. Admittedly there is no vampire cat in this video, but the vampires go to the movies at the end and Cats is playing — good enough for me!

5. The “Gatti Amari” weapon in “Vampire Survivors”

I spent way too much time playing Vampire Survivors over the last few weeks — but it’s a great game and I don’t regret a second of it! Cat lovers can look forward to the weapon “Gatti Amari”, which comes in the shape of cats that attack your enemies. I have uploaded a brief gameplay clip to my YouTube channel (also features a little shoutout)!

And this concludes my brief look at some vampire/cat crossovers. I hope you had fun! I’d love to read about some of your favorites as well, so feel free to share any you can think of in the comments.

Happy Spooky Season!
