Toy Story …
Shadow and the Plastic bag
Our cats have large selection of really nice cat toys, of which most are ignored by them.
The supposedly irresistible twitching fish; the battery operated mousey that rushes randomly around; the ever rolling flashing ball; the feather fishy on a pole; the fluffy mouse on a pole; the rattly thing on a pole; the catnip mouseys; the fluffy balls with rattling things inside — all guaranteed to give unending fun to your cat — all duds.
However, produce a crunchy candy wrapper, and at least one of them will give chase, batting it around happily for ages.
However, most recently, Shadow came across a small collection of recyclable, light plastic bags which I was taking upstairs to use as waste basket liners.
I had tucked them into the stairs for future transport. Shadow pulled them out and was seen rushing off with the whole bunch carefully held in her teeth, while letting out desperate howls.
She dropped them on the floor and wandered off. Shortly after she came back and grabbed them again, carting them around, howling.
I decided that it might be best to leave her with just one bag, tied lightly at the top (to avoid any suffocation threat), and remove the rest. I left her the one bag near her hammock (seen in photos). She ignored it until later that day.
Shadow re-approached the bag, sat down near it, bent down and called to it.
Then she gently picked it up.
The, she dropped it in order to have a quick clean.
When cleaning was done, Shadow sat beside the bag contemplatively.
Next, Shadow pats the bag, and bends down to grab it again.
Now, Shadow seizes the bag and heads out to the hall with it.
When she reaches the hall, Shadow loses interest in the bag and drops it in-front of Taffy, who seems disinterested, and stares up at Shadow.
Shadow stares down at Taffy. Game is evidently over for now.
Later, possibly just before they get their bedtime snack, Shadow will go and find the bag, and after chatting with it for a bit, will grab it and start to tote it about, while howling.😸
