Working From Home As A Cat Mom

I recently started a seasonal position where I get to work from home. Every introverted cat mom’s dream, right? When I accepted the position, I knew my cats would be excited to have me home every day.
I converted my second bedroom into a home office. That meant decluttering the mess of discarded boxes, wrapping supplies, and other junk I wasn’t quite ready to get rid of that had cluttered the space to prepare for my first work-from-home day.
A few minutes before 8:00 am on my first day, I grabbed a cup of coffee, walked into my office, and closed the door behind me.
A few minutes later, furry little paws were under the door. Then the meows started. Cats don’t like closed doors especially if they perceive themselves to be on the wrong side of that closed door. Shortly thereafter, the girls pawed loudly at the door.
I tried to calm them down by calling out that I’d be finished soon. That worked for a little while only to start up again a few minutes later.
On my first break, I opened the door and all three cats scurried inside like kids getting the okay to tear through presents on Christmas day.
They’ve always had access to that room; one or two would nap on the couch or climb on the window sill to watch…
