Bryce Breaks Slump With 16th

If you’re looking at homerun numbers, Bryce Harper is looking pretty good right now. He launched his 16th this weekend, giving him a two homerun cushion ahead of the rest of the National League. However, his average numbers are abysmal. Prior to the last two games where he notched 3 hits, he was 4-for-20, and struggling. Last nights game was a good one for Bryce, possibly signaling turn around. Obviously he is going to keep pounding homers but he could possibly start knocking base hits too. Keep a look out for Bryce to get hot again.

Astros v.s Indians

What a weekend of games we had, the Indians took on the Astros in a quick rematch from their weekend series last week. The first two games followed a similar arc, Indians go up early, but fall apart as they go deeper into the game, with their bullpen letting them down once more. Friday, the depleted bullpen allowed 11 runs (!!) after ace Corey Kluber shut out the Stros through 6 and a third. The two games succeeding the collapse of the ‘pen would have to be done without Andrew Miller who went down with knee tendonitis. The Indians were up for the task winning 8–6 thanks, in part, to a three hit night from Edwin Encarnacion. The Sunday matinee was a wild one, the Indians were up 3–2 in the eighth, but again the bullpen faltered, giving up six more runs. Luckily, the offense backed them up, after a 17 pitch at bat from Jose Ramirez the Indians strung together 7 hits and 5 runs to tie the game. Later in the 13th innings, Dan Otero allowed a solo bomb to Evan Gattis, (his second on the day) but was again bailed out by Yonder Alonso, who rocketed a solo shot to tie it in the bottom half. Finally, in the 14th inning, Greg Allen delivered the fatal blow, a shot to right field off of Brad Peacock to win the marathon game and salvage a series split. The game could provide the Indians with the spark they need to get the wind back in their sails, they moved to 26–25 and extended their division lead to 3.5. For the Astros, the loss hurts double because they now go to New York to play the Yankees with a tired bullpen. We will see how this unravels.

Are The Dodgers Back?

Little by little, piece by piece, the Los Angeles Dodgers are coming back into relevance. With the return of Justin Turner in the middle of their lineup, and the recent pickup of production from Cody Bellinger has helped too. They still sit at 24–28, but no one in the NL West is more than 3 games above .500 thanks to the abomination of a May the D-Backs have put together. Clayton Kershaw makes his return Wednesday too. A classic “it’s too early” story is happening in LA, and whether you like it or not here come the Dodgers.

The Rays Experiment — Update

Here’s an update for you. The Tampa Bay Rays are still trying to start the bullpen, and we still have no idea if it’s working. The Rays did pitch well over the weekend, and won a couple games, but the start of the game always went wrong. It was most apparent on Sunday when Sergio Romo started once again and gave up 3 runs in the first, the only 3 runs the Rays would give up. All and all, this experiment has some clear kinks and hasn’t yet caught on with any other team. However, if they keep doing it, and keep winning a majority of the games who knows? Clint Hurdle has already voiced his support, so it’s possible we could see this in Pittsburgh soon enough. Opinions aside, this way of playing the game is very… interesting.

Fantasy News

Scooter Gennett

It was a hell of a week for Scooter Gennett. The second basemen has been great all year, to the surprise of many, and this week was no different. He hit .500 this week with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs. He poured out 33 fantasy points in standard scoring leagues. Owned in 85.2 leagues, he still could be available in your league. He is the fourth ranked second basemen, go out and get him while you can, buy in.
