Manufacturing Serendipity — The Meeting of Like Minds
Whilst I was at University I got involved in a leadership development organisation called AIESEC, I ended up going on work placements to The Philippines and Colombia, visiting other cities across Europe and building a network of friends now scattered across the world. One of the most powerful elements of the organisation and many other organisations who have global memberships are the shared common values that members have.
As a member we used a platform that was called AIESEC.net and Insight. To provide some further context AIESEC’s core proposition is to run an exchange programme placing graduates on work placements around the world. The matching process of finding graduates the right jobs used to be manual, Duane Raymond worked with AIESEC international to bring this process online and transform the organisation.
As Causr was in it’s infancy I connected with Duane, he signed up to be one of our test users and provided some initial thought leadership on what we were building.
It was to my delight as I was attending an event at Google’s Central St Giles office in London that logging onto Causr I saw Duane’s profile was less than 250m away.
Seeing he was part of the AIESEC community on Causr I clicked on his profile remembering our conversations and messaged him asking what he was up to as he lives in Zurich.
He was travelling as he was running an event in London. Following a brief exchange I asked if he had eaten. He hadn’t and we agreed to meet to grab a bite.
As an AIESECer with so much in common we immediately had a lot to share and discuss talking about our own experiences of the network and our adventures.
This immediate connection and the fact that we were so close to enable a real time meeting would never have been possible without Causr.
