On Guru Poornima (a day dedicated to teachers in India) a few years back, I happened to learn that that the Sanskrit word for Gravity is “Gurutvakarshan”.

Guru = Heavy/ Great/ Master (synonyms)

Tva = You

Akarshan = Attract

Translated, Gravity means when you are attracted by something greater than yourself. It’s amazing how this multi dimensional word captures a deep essence of both how gravity works and also how a person truly willing to learn gravitates towards a great teacher.

Today social media is abuzz with mentors, coaches, guides or gurus for everything ranging from spirituality, fitness to business. These are some of the most searched keywords today and people are willing to pay top dollar for good quality guidance. Coaching and mentoring has evolved from its humble origins to become a multi billion dollar business due to high demand. Yet, we often forget to pay attention to the humble teachers we are already surrounded with. Nature, people from everyday life and our own inner selves when we sit in silence who guide us to higher truths and deeper realities.

Have you had teachers you deeply respect? Take a moment to thank them for helping you evolve.
