Cazoo Tech Talks
In late 2021 Cazoo Tech Talks was discussed as a means to connect with the community and our fellow teammates. By November 2021, we had hosted our first talk and its impact surpassed our expectations. Since then, we’ve hosted three more talks featuring tech heroes, industry experts and showcased talent from our own team at Cazoo.
Our Mission
Cazoo Tech Talk’s overall goal is to put on great events that give back to the Cazoo team and the wider tech community. They offer a safe platform for discussion and sharing of ideas, a place to learn about topics and specialisms we work with and come into contact with everyday. We aim to create a space for the team to practise public speaking, hosting and facilitating with a live and engaged audience, and platform to share expertise and experiences. We’re also building a profile of our amazing team and the individuals who make it, which we’re very proud of.
Figuring it out
Putting together a talk isn’t a cookie-cutter-process, it really depends on what the talk entails. Generally though, once our speakers are signed up and a date is agreed, it’s then all about promoting the event within the tech team at Cazoo and the wider industry. Hosting is something the team takes in turns, or if someone is keen to host — which is also something that takes practice.
If we have an internal speaker with a talk topic, we try to find an external speaker with similar expertise. If we don’t have a speaker or topic, we look at people we know or people who speak on particular topics. We want to keep the range broad, and not just focused on, say, highly technical talks.
What the future looks like
As we grow Tech Talks within the community, we’re moving into our other markets with the format. We’re excited to be working on setting up talks in Lisbon with our team and the community based in Portugal, specifically irl events where people can meet up and enjoy the Portuguese culture and hospitality that our team is well known for! We’re really looking forward to diversifying the speakers, languages and offering that we have and how this develops over the coming months.
As for our other hubs, we’ll be ramping up irl talks too and have plans in the pipeline for the rest of 2022 with no sign of slowing down.
