Hello World

Welcome to the new Cazoo Technology Blog! As a team, we have been working on technology to help scale the Cazoo rocketship for over 2 years now. We have seen the team grow from humble beginnings huddled around a whiteboard, to a distributed collective based across the UK, Portugal and Germany. Some of us fondly remember the first car order being placed, whilst others have joined recently enough to dive straight into optimisation of our pan-european logistics supply chain.

Along the way, we have solved some complex problems with cutting edge solutions. We decided early on to host the entire stack on serverless infrastructure. We implemented micro-frontends to support cross-team initiatives. We agreed we would practice the highest level of software craftsmanship using methodologies such as TDD and DDD. Now felt like the perfect time to start talking about life at Cazoo across all of our Technology disciplines (Research, Design, Product, Data, Software and Quality Engineering).

Why are we writing a blog?

The aims of the blog are firstly, to give back our learnings to the wider community. We have a diverse range of people and experience, and collectively this makes us strong. It means we are able to iterate to optimal solutions having listened to everyone’s opinions. We would love to share these findings more widely, and help raise the bar in all of our respective professions.

Secondly, growth and development are an important part of our values. We see the blog as a chance for people to practice their writing skills in a safe environment. We share and gather feedback as a matter of practice, and this is one more place to practice this. We also recognise that building a personal brand is important, and want to help promote this through the blog.

Finally, we just want to show off all of the cool stuff we build 😀
