Virtual Reality or commonly known as VR is a sophisticated piece of technology. VR is nothing but a computer generated experience designed to simulate the real environment. VR enables human beings to experience anything anywhere. This also improves our sensory system such as auditory, visual and haptic feedback.

VR presently is being utilized by various industries for several purposes, but the most exciting and interesting is the way VR is used in the recruitment industry. VR not only demonstrates to the user/ candidate how their workplace looks like or what kind of culture is being followed in the organization. A few instances from companies describe how they have implemented VR for their benefit.

Very recently, Jaguar teamed up with Gorillaz to create a reality app. This app gives and teaches the candidates how to handle electric vehicles and in turn engaging in code breaking puzzles. Jaguar claimed that this will test their cognitive and lateral thinking.

Second instance of this would be the British Army using VR to depict to soldiers and potential candidates about tank driving and other war like scenarios at the force. This resulted to a 66% increase in recruitment applications. The army also used this piece of technology to virtually experience combat training.

The last example and the very first of its kind is the hospitality industry using VR to portray to modular kitchen situations to their staff. Their purpose is to attract a plethora of potential candidates through this game, make them open their own restaurant, managing, training their employees, etc.

But there’s always two sides of a coin. Whilst VR improves the recruitment industry, there’s also things like how cost effective and voluminous it is.

Keeping these in mind, the real question to ask here is that will VR wipe out the traditional ways of recruiting and on-boarding processes?
