One way to develop extended periods of focus even if you start with no focus!

Better to work with time than against time

Need for pomodoro technique

Time management is a daunting task for many. Staying focused is negatively affected by erratic behaviours and multitasking. The way things are going, I think practically the entire world might get ADHD within two generations.

A Catch 22 situation situation here is that we need focus to develop the skill of focus. This deadlock can be broken with pomodoro technique, which asks us to work with time than against it.

Practising the technique

After choosing the task

  • Work uninterruptedly for 25 minutes, ignoring all other distractions
  • Rest uninterruptedly for 5 minutes, ignoring all other pastimes( Let your mind recover. Do not indulge. )

Twenty five minutes of effective work is said to be one pomodoro

Aim of pomodoro technique

An attempt at increasing productivity, the only requirement of this technique is to complete entire work for the day within ten pomodoros ( approximately 4.5 hours).

Working in short yet concentrated bursts yields more results than long and diluted sessions. It allows your mind to recover and prevents burnout, helping your batteries last longer.

Over time, focusing ability increases and you would be able to work for two pomodoros at a stretch without needing a break. This is a sign of mastery. More importantly, you now excercise the faculty to focus and concentrate.
