CDF Form and Composition

This entry documents the process and final drafts of the Form and Composition project of CDF. In this project we were given the following constraints, a 4" by 4" canvas boundary, with squares as the only object allowed in the piece. The square would need to act as black space and along with the negative white space, elicit a certain emotion. For practice we were given five words to express through five composition pieces. These words were:

• Order
• Tension
• Congestion
• Playfulness
• Comfort

To begin brainstorming these compositions, I first began with 5 quick sketches for each words ( a total fo 25) that I used to just get a general idea of different routes in form and composition.

The second iteration began with taking these sketches and composing them in illustrator.

In the second iteration on illustrator I then began to redline the previous iterations and take out ones that I thought would be completely irrelevant to the overall emotion trying to be expressed in each category. After that I then chose one from each category I wanted to carry forward for the final draft.
