Project Descriptions:

Design description:
I chose these three TV shows because the main character of these TV shows all have an interesting juxtaposition between evil and good. They are all very likable characters but all three of them have a very obvious bad side to their personality. It makes the audience question whether we consider them as heroes or are they criminals. This is why I chose to have wings as the background and then have the the object that makes the evil in the middle to show that they have both a righteous and also imperfect side to their characters.

Book 1: Dexter

Background: Dexter Morgan, everyone’s favorite serial killer, spends the day solving crimes and the night committing them. However, Dexter kills by a strict code of honor because he only kills psychopaths that deserve to die. He is constantly torn between his dark passenger and true happiness. Dexter is in conflict with the world and himself.

Book design: I created wings shaped out of blood spatter because Dexter is a blood spatter analyst that helps solve crimes. The knife is the object in the middle as that is what compels him to kill other psychopaths. Getting rid of psychopaths seem like a good thing but at the same time Dexter is killing people which is a huge crime. The back of the book includes blood spatter as that is a huge part of his identity as Dexter seems to be drawn towards blood.

Book 2: House

Background: An antisocial doctor, Dr. Gregory House, uses very unusual but genius ways to lead a team of diagnosticians at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey. Dr. House has quite a rude demeanor and wouldn’t even talk to his patients if he could. Dealing with his own constant physical pain, he uses a cane in order to walk.

Book design: I designed the wings for House based on the wings on the symbol for Medicine and then I put his cane in the middle because his cane represents his illness. His illness is also what makes him have such a negative attitude towards people. The back of the book is pills because House is constantly relying on his pills and is pretty much addicted to his pills.

Book 3: Daredevil

Background: Matt Murdock is a lawyer by day and a vigilante by night. He lost his sight when he was very young. This caused him to have heightened senses and also taught him to live without fear. He is determined to stop the worst of criminals in Hell’s Kitchen, New York city but using ways that is against the law. Some people think of him as a hero but some people fear him as the devil.

Book design: I used the devil’s wings as an inspiration for Daredevil’s wings on the cover and then I put his mask in the middle because many think that Daredevil is just hiding behind his mask when he tried to solve crimes because he always ends up hurting people. The back of the book is a cross because Daredevil was raised in a catholic church and his religion is also a huge part of his struggle with what he does.
