Why students should cross the street
Cecil College’s Career and Job Placement Services office is right across the street from the college, and only a doorway from the bookstore. However, many students don’t utilize the resources the Career and Job Placement Services office has to offer.
Most of the students I ask if they’ve gone answer with a resounding, “No.”
Why is this? I suppose it is due to the fact that it takes courage to make the next step toward your future, or maybe it is that they have a hard time asking for help.
I must say that I was one of these people. The first time I went was only because my mother thought I should go. When I stepped foot into the building, I immediately became nervous. My palms got sweaty and my mouth went dry.
Much to my surprise, the fear and anxiety I felt were for nothing. The people who work over there were helpful and extremely kind. I now have a working resume and an E-profile to help me get a job. In addition, they gave me a lot of advice that helped me make some tough decisions about my future career. The staff has a clear care for the students they help, and I have become very fond of the office myself. Whenever I have a concern or a question about my career, I just cross the street to the Career and Job Placement Services office.
My advice to anyone contemplating going to see them is that it’s absolutely worth the trip across the street.
