Now that the semester has wound down, it is time to focus on the holiday season and healing old wounds that have formed due to the heavy loads of studying. Aside from decorating or visiting family during the break, I have found three of the best ways to heal up and prepare myself for the upcoming semester. Through these easy fixes, you will be ready and able to start off the new semester and year with a smile.

  1. Read a book.

I always feel better with a book. However, it can’t be any ordinary book. My favorite ones during a break are quick and easily paused and allow for tons of relaxation. For example, these are a few of my suggestions:
* Let it snow, by John Green, Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle. A collection of three holiday-themed short stories for those who would enjoy a quick read that has the holiday spirit in it.
*I’ll Meet You There, by Heather Demetrios. A true to life tale about a reconnection between two people and the male main character’s war-torn struggle to find himself again after losing his leg in war. This is for the readers who enjoy a rawer narrative that tugs at the heartstrings.
*Undertow, by Michael Buckley. A story about a new generation of an aquatic-like race of people and the main heroine’s struggle to find her place in her changing society. This is a great series for the avid readers. It is a book collection of three with the conclusion coming out in February.

2. Have a cup of hot cocoa.

A warm cup of hot chocolate is the best way to find fast relaxation. This recipe has recently become a favorite of mine, and the mixture is easy to store and distribute among friends.
Easy to make dry hot chocolate mix:

Ingredients:
*3 cups of dehydrated milk
*1 cup of cocoa/chocolate powder
*1-1/2 cups of raw sugar
Directions:
*Combine all ingredients into a storage container.
*Thoroughly mix all ingredients.
Serving steps:
*Add 4 tablespoons of the mixture in a hot cup of milk or water.
*Enjoy with a peppermint candy cane.

3. Participate in fun holiday activities with friends or family.

Here are a few of my best ways to have fun indoors and outdoors.
* Ice Skating!
*Binge watch an entire season of the latest T.V. show.
*Go to the movies.
*Go skiing or sledding.
*Bake cookies.
*Volunteer.
*And of course, sleep in.

The holidays can be hectic, but these few tips should aid you through the season. If you have to travel during the break, are out of ideas for fun things to do with friends, or need a little holiday help, this blog should assist you through your boredom. I hope you enjoy these tips and have a great winter break, new year, and upcoming semester. I know that I will be looking forward to writing for Cecil College’s blog next semester and beginning another round of classes. Most of all, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
