Take opportunities as they come
I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason. Sometimes, especially as college students, we get so caught up in trying to make plans and forge a path for ourselves that we may overlook opportunities that come our way. Even worse still, we may choose to pass them up for fear they are “not right” for us.
Recently, I was offered the chance to volunteer with a great organization that reaches out to youth in vulnerable situations. I foolishly almost didn’t take it because the rational part of my brain assured me it would take too much time away from my schoolwork and other obligations. I wanted to take this opportunity because giving back to the community is important to me, but I was so caught up with worrying about whether or not it would fit in with the plan I had for myself that I almost missed out.
I came to the realization that not everything I do has to be on my “path to success”. There are times when things fall into place because they are meant to be. One opportunity may be presented to you for a reason and it could lead to a million others. I found, through this experience, something I’m passionate about. If I hadn’t gone out of my comfort zone, I never would have known. In your own life, I encourage you to seize opportunities as they come. Take the chances you want to take, because you never know where they might lead you.
