Alicia Keys and her producer husband Swizz Beatz want to create an environment where their children, Egypt and Genesis Dean, are able to live their best lives without fear of judgment!

On Saturday (Nov.9), the “Un-Thinkable” singer posted a video venting about how senseless labels can sadly keep people from expressing themselves as they please.

The 38-year-old mother recounted her experience taking her four-year-old son Genesis to the nail salon.

“He’s in the chair and he’s like, ‘I want [a] rainbow.’ So he tells the lady that he wants rainbow colors on his nails. And she brings all of these colors and she paints each nail a different color. And after she painted his nails, he looked at me and he said, ‘Mommy, I don’t want this on my nails,’” Keys said.

Unfortunately, Genesis wanted his new nail designs to be removed because he thought, “people are not going to like it.”

“Can you believe this? Four-years-old. He’s four!” she said. “And he already understands the concept that someone is gonna judge him because he chose rainbow colors on his nails.”

Being the positive spirit she is, she decided to uplift and empower her son, by sharing these few words of encouragement. “Stick with it. You chose it. You liked it. You do it.”

Alicia’s husband commented on the post supporting his son’s choice to be creative in forms considered “unconventional” for boys. “He’s a young King and he can explore and express his creativity at any time! We support it as his parents.”

Celebrities like Jeanette Jenkins chimed in to express her support for the couple’s parenting style. “I loved your feedback to him. So beautiful […] this type of support is so valuable & builds confidence in decision making. I love your rant & agree 100%”

While some appreciated Alicia and Swizz’s modern parenting style, others were quite critical over it.

On a repost on The Shade Room’s Instagram page, fans took to the comments to criticize the parents.

“She’s tripping,” one user commented before continuing, “just being a good old fashion man who respects women is not good enough anymore you gotta wear a dress, paint your nails, and be more in touch with your feminine side, what is this world coming to.”

Another fan went in and let have saying, “One question ☝🏽 where is his daddy and why would he approve of this. That’s the problem. MEN TEACH YOUR SONS TO BE MEN. We can’t have an entire generation of soft feminine men… this ain’t gonna work. Then they’ll raise soft feminine men and there goes the black race. WTF is happening here.”

In an effort to prove her point, Alicia decided to share on her Instagram story collages of celebrity men like Billy Porter, Pharrell, and Luka Sabbat expressing their feminine energy.

We’re curious, what do you think of Alicia’s beliefs? Share your thoughts.
