The acquitted ex-NFL star speaks out.

While most American citizens are under a stay-at-home, social distancing mandate thanks to the spread of the Coronavirus, many have taken to sedentary life by stationing in front of the television watching movies and shows on their favorite video streaming apps to ease the pain of boredom. One such shot of Novocain is the Netflix true-crime series, The Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, in which the title speaks for itself. The show takes you on a circus-like adventure with a handful of rogue characters that have been existing somewhere in the “zoo-sphere.”

The show is centered around Joe Exotic (nee Joseph Schreibvogel), a gay, polygamous, private zoo owner, failed politician, and reality star based in Oklahoma who fancied himself the king of exotic big cats. Joe possesses the strange capability to turn straight men into his gay husbands with the magic power of drugs and big cats that leaves the viewers in awe. Like every action-packed thriller, there is a nemesis, and for Joe, that would be Carole Baskin.

Carole is an animal rights activist and animal sanctuary owner based in Tampa, Florida who is determined to rescue animals from people like Joe, who she believes exploits the big lovable (yet dangerous) cats for money and causes them harm. Joe is very resentful of her accusations and says that she not only does the same thing, but she also murdered her husband, Jack Donald Lewis, who went missing in 1997. His disdain for Carole boils over to obsession as he does countless videos on his YouTube show, Joe Exoctic TV, about killing her and even goes so far as to put down a $3,000 deposit with a hitman to have her taken off the planet. Joe is now serving 22 years for the botched murder-for-hire.

That’s right, this show was scandalous from the moment it started to the very end. Each episode was packed with the allure of a train wreck that you couldn’t take your eyes off.

Of the millions of people who tuned into the seven-episode wacky roller-coaster adventure, former football player, O.J. Simpson, confessed that he had also hopped on the joyride and shared his opinion of Carole Baskin and the mystery behind her missing husband. “There’s not a shred of doubt in my mind that that lady’s husband is ah… tiger sashimi right now,” he says. If you’re not familiar with sashimi, it’s a Japanese delicacy consisting of fresh raw fish or meat sliced into thin pieces. In other words, he firmly believes that Carole killed her husband.

What many may find most ironic about O.J.’s realization is that he was also accused of murdering his ex-spouse, Nicole Brown Simpson, in 1994 but was later acquitted of the crime after a 10-month trial that was televised in 1995. Could he be speaking from his own experience?

Baskin, however, denies the allegations of killing her husband and asserting her innocence in a very detailed article written on her website, Big Cat Rescue. “Don was not easy to live with and like most couples, we had our moments. But I never threatened him and I certainly had nothing to do with his disappearance. When he disappeared, I did everything I could to assist the police. I encouraged them to check out the rumors from Costa Rica, and separately I hired a private investigator,” she declares.

While Carole was not charged with any crime, the popularity of the show has come to the attention of Hillsborough County Sheriff, Chad Chronister, who tweeted that the case would soon be reopening. On March 30, 2020, he wrote, “Since @netflix and #Covid19 #Quarantine has made #TigerKing all the rage, I figured it was a good time to ask for new leads. #CaroleBaskin #DonLewis.”

It seems that O.J. isn’t the only celebrity convinced that Carole is guilty. The reality star and rapper, Cardi B, expressed herself thoughts on Twitter bluntly stating that Carole Baskins knows something about the crime. “Carole, you think you slick b***h,” she tweeted.

So far, there haven’t been any reported leads, but we are sure that those who watched the docuseries will be following this story to the bitter end. Be sure to buckle up.
