What’s a challenge you’ve faced, and how did you get through it?

I am challenged with my hearing health. A sudden onslaught of tinnitus and hearing loss eleven years ago changed my life…for the better. I face the issue using tech (i.e. Apps, mobile devices) and heaps of compassion for myself and others.

What’s something you’ve done that you’re really proud of?

I volunteered for two years with a senior resource center to help seniors get familiar with mobile technology. I propositioned the director to include mobile tech in the programming, and once it was accepted, I loved witnessing the impact it made in the lives of seniors in their health, finances, and personal relationships.

What’s something that’s been on your mind this Black History Month?

I often wonder if diversity at tech companies will ever truly meet an acceptable standard to the degree that a minority tech professional can enter its doors and immediately feel an authentic acceptance for their talents, skills, and resources. Non-diverse companies and boards operate in a layered, historical, systemic ignorance that continues to find roots and wings in the highest echelons of our society, hindering the progress of women despite how empowered, educated, or economically advantaged they are.
