Descendants of Boonesborough, KY

On Saturday June 23, 2018 from 9.00am to 4.00 pm The Fort Boonesborough State Park and is welcoming everyone who had ancestors in the area of Fort Boonesborough in the 18th century and played a part in the early settlement. Participants can receive resources and information about many of the folks who were at the fort in those early days; ideas of where to find genealogical information; and view museum exhibits of artifacts from the original fort site. Authors will be on hand to sign books about early days of the fort, the people, and surrounding areas. There will be ongoing historical interpretation of the daily lives, chores, skills and trades of those who came to Boonesborough during this time.

Trace Your Relatives Who Were at Boonesborough

Representatives from the Society of Boonesborough, the Boone Society, Friends of Boone Trace, Dr. Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, The Filson Club, Eastern Kentucky Library and Archives, and the Madison County Historical Society will be on hand to assist with information on genealogy, early Kentucky cemeteries, and early Madison county family history. A representative from the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Land office will present a program on early Kentucky Land Patents and processes involved in obtaining land in early Kentucky, and more. This event is free with regular paid admission to the fort.

If you are interested in attending this event, you may want to check this list of early settlers of provided by the Fort Boonesborough Foundation on their website. This list is from a memorial located at the fort and paid for by The Society of Boonesbrough in 1981. You may purchase “the little yellow book” Early Settlers of Fort Boonesborough by H. Thomas Tudor (1975) which lists the names of all the pioneers on the monument. It is available for sale in the Transylvania Store Gift Shop at the fort.

On the 1st of April, 1775, Daniel Boone, Richard Henderson (Henderson actually arrived about 3 weeks later) and their companions, reached the southern bank of the Kentucky River, and began to build a fort, afterwards known as Boonesborough. See if your relatives are on this list.
