Cellular Agriculture Canada has a new Executive Director
Hi! My name is Avery Parkinson, and I am excited to announce my new position as the Executive Director at Cellular Agriculture Canada (CAC) — the organization fostering the interdisciplinary and collaborative growth of the field in Canada.
Although I am new to this position, I have been involved in many aspects of the field for the past 2 years. In particular, I have interned with Tufts University and New Harvest where I learned about the economic aspect of cultivated meat production, worked on marketing with some of the startups in Big Idea Ventures accelerator program, developed open source content to democratize the field with the Good Food Institute, volunteered on putting together Cellular Agriculture Australia’s Pathways for Students resource, and currently work at the Protein Report where we aim to increase protein literacy and engage a wide range of readers in an inclusive conversation.
As a former CAC volunteer, I helped draft a white paper concerning the state of the country’s cellular agriculture landscape, create a Canadian version of the Pathways for students resource and organize and share findings from the first ever meeting of government officials on next steps for a regulatory framework.
Following in the footsteps of CAC’s first incredible Executive Director and co-founder, Yadira Tejeda-Saldana, CAC will continue to be a place where individuals from all sectors can form partnerships, problem solve and find out how they can lend their expertise to growing the field. We will also be furthering our advocacy for a fair and appropriate regulatory framework for future cultivated protein products in Canada.
Another key priority will be engaging valuable segments of Canadian society in conversation. This will look like voicing concerns, highlighting outstanding problems and coming up with solutions to best address them in order to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive dialogue.
