Celo Fellowship: Call for Proposals
In the spirit of decentralization, we established a fellowship to allow people to participate in the Celo ecosystem from any location and for a flexible amount of time. Each fellow has a specific project and deliverables aligned to their area(s) of expertise. Projects of interest include privacy, scalability, and data usage, field experience in emerging markets, statistical science, among others.
Interested fellows submit a project proposal outlining the project scope, deliverables, structure, and resources needed. Each fellow will receive a stipend for contributions, which is determined by project.

Improving crypto-economic modeling with machine learning and AI
Earlier this month, Celo joined a small cohort of fintech companies from the around the world, for the kick-off of Google’s Launchpad Studio program. We will be working together with Google on new frameworks on how to leverage machine learning and artificial intelligence to build better models for protocol simulations and treasury management and are looking forward to sharing some of our work on our blog in the near future.

Recap: Decrypting Crypto
On September 25, we hosted our first public event in our San Francisco office. Our goal was to demystify the crypto space and make it more approachable and human. Our investor Linda Xie gave an introduction to crypto and we shared our findings from our recent field research trip to Kenya. Thanks for everyone who attended and for the positive follow-ups.
In the past month, we’ve been busy making improvements to both our protocol and to our mobile app. Most critically, we’ve re-architected our identity protocol to no longer store phone numbers in plain text on the blockchain. Additionally, we’ve built out support for sending a payment to a user that has yet to install our Celo app. We’re excited to see both these and other changes come in ahead of plan.
