Research findings from Colombia, United Nations & The World Bank events, and how Celo’s stablecoins keep their peg
Field Notes: Venezuelans in Colombia
Not every one of the 1.7 billion unbanked are unbanked for the same reason. Celo’s latest research focused on a part of the Venezuelan diaspora living in Colombia and cases where financial services are failing them. As part of James’s Celo fellowship, he co-led field research in Colombia for the entire team working on Celo. This research and the insights we share give color to how one particular set of individuals navigate the largest social, economic and migratory crisis in Latin American history.
United Nations Task Force for Digital Financing
The UN Task Force for Digital Financing and the team working on Celo hosted a daylong Thinkshop at our offices in San Francisco on Wednesday, May 22nd. Invited guests from academia, tech, VCs, NGOs and public sector talked about the trends shaping digital economies and offered insights into which technologies are most likely to have social impact.
Zooming in on the Celo Expansion & Contraction Mechanism
Most stablecoins, such as Tether or TrueUSD, are centralized. This makes them easier to control and manage. Celo, however, will be decentralized. This makes it unique in proposition and value, and uniquely challenging: security of the stablecoin peg (the value) must be maintained and protected against numerous scenarios and attack vectors.
